Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, the Mighty Avenger, continues his big-screen adventures as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of the first movie and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns to battle with Malekith (Chris Ecclestone), the vengeful leader of a primordial race that is trying to destroy the Nine Realms.
To beat an enemy that even Asgard and Odin (Anthony Hopkins) cannot withstand, Thor sets upon his most dangerous and personal journey online yet, forced into an alliance with the treacherous Loki to save not only his people and those he loves…but our universe itself.
Direction wise Alan Taylor is first rate in continuing the story of Thor maturing and having to suffer along the process. He does an excellent job in looking at the family drama, in two brothers fighting. We see that they are just as flawed as any of us, Alan has done a great job in giving us a worthy sequel to the original blockbuster and the audience will enjoy the spectacular movie for free that entertains and moves the story along admirably.

Performance wise Chris Hemsworth is majestic as the mighty semi-god Thor. We have seen him learn humility but come into conflict with his brother Loki after saving earth with The Avengers. In this adventure we see the character grow as he faces a greater enemy that threatens to destroy everything he cares for. He is excellent in the action scenes twirling the hammer in spectacular style in this epic. Hemsworth is very funny also in certain parts of the full movie and his inter play with Loki are a joy to watch in The Dark World. His chemistry with Natalie Portman is also developed further and the two vibe very well together.
Tom Hiddlestone once again gives a powerful performance as the disgruntled mischievous Loki. His character as the beginning of this film is seen imprisoned for his attack on earth in The Avengers. He is still arrogant and unrepentant, but sees his loyalties tested when an ancient enemy seeks the destruction of Asgard. He is magnificent in his war of words with Thor and simply hilarious in other scenes in this awesome adventure. Watch out for a scene where he becomes a fellow Avenger to get on everyones nerves. The actor gives an other excellent turn.
Natalie Portman as Thor’s love interest gives an inspired performance. She has a more important role and her chemistry with Chris Hemsworth is sweet. The baddie Malekith is played with the right amount of menace by Chris Ecclestone, who excels in the action scenes and gives the mighty Thor a worthy adversary who is hell bent on revenge. The supporting cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Idris Elba, Jamie Alexander and Kat Dennings all give marvelous performances also. Watch out for a hilarious turn from Stellan Skarsgard as Dr Eril Selvig.
The photography and special effects are spell binding. Once again London is used as an excellent location. Visually The Dark World is very enthralling to watch online and the humor between the characters is a joy.
Put everything down and go and enjoy a movie that transports you to other worlds and reunites you with you favorite characters. A hammer tastic fantasy film that all the family will enjoy.
